Valencia was founded by the Romans in 138 A.D. under the name of Valentia, “land of the brave.”  The city is based on the Old Town center of Valencia and District of Carmen, where there many remains of the cultures that once inhabited this city can be found.

At the Plaza de la Almoina you can see evidence of where there once was a battle between civilians and the leaders, Pompey and Sertorius. Valencia was abandoned until the reign of Emperor Octavio began. In the next following years, the city repopulated and the beginning of public buildings and infrastructure came, for instance a river port that was located at which today the Towers of Serranos are located .

In 711 , Arabs began inhabiting Valencia and the main remnants of the Arab culture meet:

  1. In the gardens of the Ruzafa Quarter

During the Reconquest, the city was occupied and so was its kingdom, the Kingdom of Aragon.
