In the past, the Monastery of San Miguel de los Reyes had different functions: a homeless shelter, a women jail and, later, a male one.

The Monastery of San Miguel de los Reyes lies on Avenida Constitución in the neighborhood of Orriols in Valencia.

This building was founded by the Duke of Calabria in the XVI century. The Monastery of San Miguel de los Reyes is considered one of the most representative building of the Valencian Renaissance. Futhermore, it could be the trailblazing of the Monastery of El Escorial in Madrid.

In the past, the Monastery of San Miguel de los Reyes had different functions: a homeless shelter, a women jail and, later, a male one. From 1936, the monastery became a politician prison both during the Spanish Republic and Francoism.

In 1966, the monastery aquired a more instructive function: it became a boarding school. But, in 1999,in the Monastery of San Miguel de los Reyes was established the Valencian Library.
